In the midst of football season, former Mountaineer baseball stars Darius Hill (outfielder) and Ivan “Pudge” Gonzalez (catcher) are tearing it up in the minor leagues.

It’s still very early in their career to tell how far they will go, but they are certainly off to a terrific start.

Hill, who was taken in the 20th round by the Chicago Cubs is hitting for a .306 average in 85 at bats and has drove in 13 runs in 23 games for the Eugene Emeralds of Class A-short season. Hill only played eight games on the Arizona League team before being called up a level.

As for Gonzalez, he’s been scorching hot. He was taken in the eighth round of the draft by the Chicago White Sox and is making steady progress. He hit for a .459 average with 8 RBIs in 10 games for the Arizona League White Sox. The White Sox just recently moved him to the Great Falls Voyagers of the Rookie League.
