Is WVU Football Back in Mix for 2025 4-Star?

The WVU football program secured wins for both the present and future of the Mountaineers in the same weekend. As the West Virginia coaches were enjoy their win over Oklahoma State, they also learned they might be back in the mix for a top recruit.

2025 four-star prospect Dawayne Galloway announced he’s withdrawing his commitment to Purdue on Sunday. Galloway’s decision comes after committing to the Boilermakers in July over a final group of programs that included West Virginia.

Galloway opened up about what he likes about West Virginia during his initial recruitment, especially since he had offers from many big brands.

“Really like what coach Brown and what he’s all about,” said Galloway when asked what he loves most about the West Virginia program.

Galloway (6-foot, 175 pounds), viewed as both a cornerback and an athlete, attends Marion Franklin High School in Columbus, Ohio. Galloway scored three touchdowns and made five interceptions during his 2023 high school season. WVU sent Galloway an official offer back in September.

Galloway was also considering Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF and WVU. WVU beat out the likes of Auburn, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri and Backyard Brawl rival Pitt.

Regarded as a consensus four-star player, Galloway is ranked as one of the top 10 best players in Ohio in his class by every major recruiting outlet.
