Mountaineers in the Pros
JJ Quinerly Makes Dallas Wings’ Opening Day Roster

Former WVU star JJ Quinerly has made her first WNBA roster, the Dallas Wings announced Thursday.
Dallas drafted JJ Quinerly 27th overall in last month’s WNBA Draft. Despite being drafted, Quinerly’s roster spot on the Wings was not guaranteed, as teams will cut down to 11 or 12 players at the start of the season.

The Virginia native did enough in the preseason to earn a spot on the roster. In two preseason games, Quinerly averaged 10 points, 2.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 8-13 from the floor.
Quinerly, who is third all-time in WVU history in both points and steals, will go down as one of the greatest players in WVU women’s basketball history. Staying with the Mountaineers through three different head coaches, Quinerly led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances while racking up three All-Big 12 first-team selections, back-to-back Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Awards and two All-American honorable mentions.
The Virginia native averaged a career-high 20.4 points this college season with 3.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. She scored double-digit points in all but one game this season, reaching 20 points 14 times and 30 points three times. She matched the program record for single-game scoring with 38 points on Senior Day against Utah.
The Wings open the 2025 season at home against the Minnesota Lynx on May 16.
Quinerly is the first former WVU player to make a WNBA roster since Kysre Gondrezick made the Chicago Sky’s opening day roster in 2024. Gondrezick also played for the Indiana Fever in 2021. Bria Holmes also played in the WNBA in 2021, for the Los Angeles Aprkers and Las Vegas Aces.
