Much like with the recent struggles of the football program, any West Virginia fan down about the basketball team can at least look to one of their own excelling at the pro level to be proud of.

This time it’s former Mountaineer guard Joe Mazzulla leading the team with the best record in the NBA. And on Saturday night, Mazzulla’s Celtics won their ninth straight game with a hard fought 106-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on the road in Canada. Jaylen Brown was the star of the night for Boston, shooting 10 for 23 and scoring 27 points with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

But despite a typical performance from Brown, it’s very likely Boston doesn’t win without Grant Williams stepping up. He recorded 25 points in 34 minutes off the bench. Mazzulla talked about how much the team needed Williams postgame.

Next up for the Celtics is date with the lowly Magic on Monday night in Orlando, providing the Celtics a great opportunity to increase their win streak to 10 games before traveling south for a matchup with the Miami Heat the following night.
