Jordan Scruggs Part of Secondary Overhaul | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.
Of the ten cornerbacks on the Mountaineers’ roster, eight are new additions (either transfers or incoming freshmen) after WVU Football had one of the worst pass defenses in the country in 2024.
Jordan Scruggs is one of those transfers, a 5-foot-11, 166 pound redshirt senior who began his college career with time in Division II and in junior college before transferring to South Alabama. Scruggs proved his mettle in the Sun Belt, starting nine games during his first taste of Division I action and picking up an interception, 4.5 tackles for loss and 69 total tackles.
Now he’ll make his next jump, attempting to prove his mettle in an unproven cornerback room that will provide plenty of opportunities for playing time.
6 • Jordan Scruggs, redshirt senior cornerback
Last year: Scruggs played 12 games, starting nine, at South Alabama during his first season of play at Division I.
Stats: 69 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and an interception during the 2024 season.
Camp outlook: WVU Football had one of the worst secondaries in the country in 2024, prompting new head coach Rich Rodriguez to hit the transfer portal hard looking for new talent.
Projected role: In an unproven room, Scruggs will compete for a starting role. Even if he doesn’t lock down the top spot on the depth chart, he’s a great bet for extended playing time in a pass-happy era that always needs defensive backs.
Accolades, highlights: Scruggs earned first team all-state honors in Kansas during his senior year of high school.
