Knicks Take First Summer League Loss Despite Miles McBride’s 16 Points

Former WVU guard Miles “Deuce” McBride and the New York Knicks took their first loss of the NBA Summer League campaign on Monday night, losing to the Portland Trail Blazers 88-77. The Knicks move to an overall record of 2-1.

McBride completed his third game, finishing with 16 points, four assists and three steals in 31 minutes of play. McBride shot 6-of-15 from the field completing on 2-three’s.

Over the past three games, McBride is averaging 14.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. McBride has also started in all three games.

In April, McBride finished his rookie season with the Knicks, playing with the NBA team and the G-League team throughout the season. The Cincinnati native appeared in 40 games averaging 2.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 9.3 minutes per contest. In the G-League, McBride was putting up video game-like numbers for the Westchester Knicks. McBride averaged 27.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 11.2 assists and 2.7 steals through six G-League games. The ex-Mountaineer shot 47 percent from the field, 50 percent from three and 78 percent from the free-throw line.

According to Basketball ReferenceMcBride will earn $1.5 million during the 2022-23 season.

McBride played at West Virginia from 2019-21, appearing in 60 games for the Mountaineers. McBride averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists. In his sophomore season, McBride was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, as he led WVU to a No. 3 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

The Knicks will take on the Orlando Magic on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
