Look: WVU Basketball Transfers Arrive For Summer Workouts

WVU basketball transfers RaeQuan Battle (G), Jesse Edwards (C), Kerr Kriisa (G), Jose Perez (G) and Omar Silverio (G) have all arrived for summer workouts. The group of five has pushed West Virginia to the top of the transfer portal class rankings this offseason.

The basketball program’s social media accounts posted pictures of Kriisa, Battle and Edwards on Tuesday.

Battle (6-foot-5) started in all 35 games this past season, averaging 17.7 points on 47 percent shooting from the field, 35 percent from three and 83 percent from the free throw line. The Tulip, Wa. native scored 27 points against Kansas State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Battle was named to the All-Big Sky First Team during his senior year. Battle began his collegiate career at Washington.

Edwards (6-foot-11) averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks on 59 percent shooting from the field. Edwards was named to the All-ACC Third Team this past season. Edwards has started for the Orange in the past two years. Edwards played seven minutes against West Virginia in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Edwards chose WVU over Kansas and Gonzaga during his recruitment.

Kriisa (6-foot-3) left Arizona after three seasons, serving as a full-time starter the last two years under Tommy Lloyd. Kriisa, a native of Estonia, averaged 9.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists this past season. Kriisa was second in the Pac-12 in total assists and also shot 37 percent from three. Kriisa has appeared in the last two NCAA Tournaments for Arizona, reaching the Sweet-16 last year.

Perez (6-foot-5) transferred to West Virginia in late October after Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello was let go two weeks before the season started. The Bronx, NY native sat out the entirety of the 2022-23 season after being denied a waiver by the NCAA. Perez last played in the 2021-22 season with Manhattan, averaging 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Perez shot 40 percent from the field. Perez was named the Preseason MAAC Player of the Year.

Silverio (6-foot-3) last played at Hofstra during the 2021-22 season, averaging 10.9 points and 3.3 rebounds. The native of the Dominican Republic shot 37 percent from the field and 36 percent from three. Silverio started his collegiate career at Rhode Island.

West Virginia also returns Josiah Harris (F), Kobe Johnson (G), Tre Mitchell (F), James Okonkwo (F), Patrick Suemnick (F), Joe Toussaint (G), Mohamed Wague (F), Seth Wilson (G).
