The Marshall Thundering Herd have their new quarterback, signing Jacksonville State transfer Zion Turner on Monday. Turner will now go from playing for Rich Rodriguez to being coached by Tony Gibson at Marshall.

On3 Sports was first with the news that was then posted by Turner on social media.

Turner, who entered the eraser portal on Dec. 22, only appeared in one game for Jacksonville State in 2024. He will now attend his third different school after initially ย starting his college career at UConn before transferring to Jacksonville State before the 2024 season.

Turner only threw five passes in 2023, but posted 1,407 passing yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2022. He also ran for 262 yards for UConn.

Marshall extended an offer to Turner on Dec. 28.

Turner is the first quarterback addition for Gibson. The Thundering Herd’s 2024 starter Braylon Braxton followed former Marshall head coach Charles Huff to Southern Miss and Cole Pennington decided to transfer away as well.
