Mountaineers in the Pros
NBA Scouts Have ‘Growing Interest’ in West Virginia’s Javon Small

No matter what happens throughout the rest of this season, WVU’s Javon Small has done his part. It also seems as if Small has impressed some important people who could help lead him to a successful future.
“I talked to some of the 35 NBA scouts last night the at the Baylor-Arizona game and there’s growing interest in WVU’s Javon Small. Heโs almost single-handedly keeping the Mountaineers in NCAA contention & in my Top 3 for Big12 Conference POY,” said ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla.

This is also far from the first time Small has received national praise for his play this season. And even though West Virginia has fallen to the bubble, Small has still led way as WVU’s clear MVP.
In 25 games so far, Small is averaging 18.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists. He’s also coming off a 22-point performance on the road against Baylor.
Small still has a shot at being named Big 12 Player of the Year, but no matter if he wins that honor or not, he’s clearly made a name for himself and may now have a shot at playing in the NBA, something that wasn’t brought up as much for him prior to becoming a Mountaineer. Small averaged 15.1 points per game during the 2022-23 season with Oklahoma State. He became the focal point of West Virginia’s offense once Tucker DeVries started missing games in early December.
For a related story, Erik Stevenson signed a 10-day contract with the NBA’s Washington Wizards.
