OFFICIAL: Neal Brown hires Travis Trickett as offensive assistant

Today, West Virginia head football coach Neal Brown announced the hiring of Georgia State offensive coordinator Travis Trickett.

“Travis has West Virginia roots, comes from a Mountaineer family and started his coaching career here in Morgantown. He brings years of experience with him from various stops, including several years as an offensive coordinator, and has proven to be successful at developing players and as a recruiter.” Coach Brown said in a statement released by the university.

Trickett, 32, spent five total seasons at Samford as an assistant and three of which, he was the offensive coordinator. In 2016, he took the offensive coordinator position at Florida Atlantic and helped lead the offense to set single season records in rushing yards, yards per carry, rushing touchdowns and most yards in a game.

He returns to West Virginia, where he played and also started his coaching career as a graduate assistant. He also had stints at Alabama under Nick Saban and Florida State under Jimbo Fisher. Travis’ father, Rick, was the Mountaineers offensive line coach from the 2001-2007 seasons and his brother, Clint, was the starting quarterback in much of 2013 and all of 2014.

Trickett will be the final piece to Neal Brown’s staff and a staff assignment will be named at a later date. As for now, he will be listed as an offensive assistant.
