Pair of Linebackers Commit to Stay with WVU Football in 2024

Add two more WVU football players to the list committed to remain Mountaineers thanks to Country Roads Trust.

The Trust announced linebackers Ben Cutter and Trey Lathan will be back for the 2024 season on Wednesday morning after agreeing to new deals with West Virginia’s NIL collective.

And due to a lack of depth at linebacker and Lee Kpogba being out of eligibility, Cutter and Lathan both were among the players WVU could not afford to lose.

Cutter, who stepped up when called upon for the Mountaineers in 2023, recorded 51 total tackles with two sacks and a pass deflection in his true freshman season. A big reason why Cutter was relied upon so much was the season ending injury Lathan suffered in the TCU game.

Lathan was carted off the field and had to have surgery following a lower leg injury. Prior to the injury, Lathan totaled 27 tackles with two pass deflections and a forced fumble in just under five full games played. Lathan played sparingly in 2022 and received a redshirt for that season.

With plenty of eligibility remaining, Cutter and Lathan could be cornerstones of the West Virginia defense for years to come.
