Physical Corner Chams Diagne Jumps to P4 | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2026 WVU Football Roster.
Redshirt senior cornerback Chams Diagne stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 208 pounds, the type of long, physical frame that defensive coordinators dream of. For all his natural athleticism — the Atlanta native also played basketball in high school — Diagne had to battle to find a spot on the Division I gridiron, walking on at Georgia State before transferring to Independence Community College for a season.
Diagne made his return to the Panthers in 2024, appearing in 20 games over the past two seasons. He started six last season, breaking up three passes and recording 25 tackles before deciding to test his hand in the Big 12 during his final season of eligibility.
Making the jump from the Sun Belt to the Power Four level will always provide some degree of a learning curve, but Diagne’s frame means he’d likely fit best on the outside instead of earning snaps as a nickel or slot cornerback. After proving himself against the odds at every other stop in his college career to date, watch to see what kind of story Diagne can write during his college swan song.
7 • Chams Diagne, redshirt senior cornerback
Last Year: Diagne suited up for Georgia State in 2025, appearing in ten games and making six starts.
Stats: 25 tackles (10 solo), and three pass breakups.
Post-Camp Outlook: The Mountaineers’ secondary needs work after two straight seasons in the basement of Division I. Diagne displayed that he belongs on the Division I gridiron last season, but he’ll have plenty of work to do to prove himself at the Power Four level.
Projected Role: Diagne wouldn’t have transferred to WVU Football for his final season of college ball if he didn’t expect to earn playing time: at a minimum, expect him to serve as a reserve cornerback and on special teams.
Accolades, Highlights: Diagne’s journey brought him from a walk-on stint at Georgia State to the junior college level. After proving himself at Independence Community College, he returned to the Panthers for the past two seasons. His story of success and determination makes him an easy player to root for.
