Poll: How Much Time Should Rich Rodriguez Receive to Fix WVU Football?
As WVU football endures a season that could end up arguing as one of the worst in program history, Rich Rodriguez is preaching patience. He’s still promising he will eventually make West Virginia great again.
However, Rodriguez spent most of the offseason saying how it’s easier to turn a program around in this era and he was planning on winning right away. Obviously, his plans have been hampered by a rash of serious injuries to players he was banking on being high level contributors in 2025. But even taking the injuries into account, WVU hasn’t even been able to be competitive in Big 12 play.
And now after the Mountaineers’ fourth straight blowout loss to a conference opponent, the most recent one coming at the hands of a school in a similar situation, Rodriguez is hoping “this is the bottom” for his second tenure.
WVU's blowout loss to UCF is by far the worst of them all this season. UCF was a beatable team that's also rebuilding their program with a head coach in his second tenure. They're also not a program throwing money around. For WVU to be so far behind UCF is just unacceptable.โฆ

It’s only year one, but how much patience are you, the fan, planning on offering Rodriguez and his staff? How much time are you willing to grant him to get West Virginia headed in the right direction?
WVU director of athletics Wren Baker isn’t going to fire Rodriguez after one season no matter what, especially with the excuse of injuries available, but he’s also made it clear the Mountaineers simply have to become a winning program again.
Now at 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12, thereโs not much for even the most optimistic WVU fan to point to as a sign of better days to come. The hope has to be in Rodriguez and the belief he will fulfill his promise, granted that may take more time than initially advertised.
