Poll: When Should WVU Football Debut Coal Rush Uniforms?
The WVU football program decided to tease some future news while announcing game promotions for the upcoming 2024 season. Even though most of the games now have an event attached to them, a couple big ones will be revealed at a later date.
Among the promotions still left to be announced is the one fans have been anticipating the most. The 2204 season will mark the debut of West Virginia’s Coal Rush uniforms – a uniform designed to honor the state’s history with coal.
And while we know the Mountaineers will not wear their Coal Rush uniform during their season opener against Penn State, there are still four remaining options available.
Out of the four choices of Kansas, Iowa State, Kansas State or Baylor, which game do you want to see WVU wear their new Coal Rush uniforms?
A breakdown of those four games can be found below.
Kansas – Sept. 21 at Milan Puskar Stadium
2023 record 9-4 (5-4, Big 12)
West Virginia and Kansas did not play last year, but Jalon Daniels ran all over the Mountaineers a game that served as his coming out party in 2022. Daniels threw for 219 yards and ran for 85 more while scoring three touchdowns in the Jayhawks’ 55-42 overtime win.
Even though WVU won’t be caught off guard by Daniels again, this game will undoubtedly be an early test for Garrett Greene and company. Many are now expecting Daniels to lead Kansas to a special season as he returns from an injury plagued 2023.
If West Virginia is going to seriously contend for a Big 12 title, they will need to prove their worth right off the bat against Kansas.
Iowa State – Oct. 12 at Milan Puskar Stadium
2023 record 7-6 (6-3, Big 12)
Much like Kansas, WVU avoided playing the next two staple Big 12 foes in 2023. Next up is Iowa State.
And despite enduring a roller coaster season, there’s an expectation that the Cyclones should be back as a threat again this year. Iowa State beat the in 2022 matchup in convincing fashion 31-14, although both teams look very different now from two years ago.
Kansas State – Oct. 19 at Milan Puskar Stadium
2023 record 9-4 (6-3, Big 12)
Kansas State may have taken a bit of a step back a season ago compared to lifting the conference trophy in 2022, but the Wildcats were still completive all year. Some even believe Kansas State could return to glory and win another Big 12 championship if the cards fall in their favor.
Baylor – Nov. 16 at Milan Puskar Stadium
WVU and Baylor were on opposite tracks when they closed the 2023 regular season in Waco, but it took a miraculous comeback effort for Greene to lead West Virginia to his team’s eighth win. Zach Frazier suffered a serious injury on the final drive of this game, but his presence of mind to get himself off the field impressed NFL scouts and helped get him drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round.
But regardless how the WVU football team looks, it’s safe to say fans want their Mountaineers to play well above all else.
