Report: Arizona Football Hires San Jose State’s Brent Brennan as New Head Coach
As the Big 12 embarks on a new era for the conference, one of its newest members is also starting a new chapter of its own. The Arizona football program will start its first season in the Big 12 with a new head coach.
Just days after Jedd Fisch decided to leave the Wildcats to take over at Washington, Arizona now has its new leader. Arizona has hired Brent Brennan away from San Jose State, according to reports, including from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Arizona has not yet made a formal announcement with this news. Brennan’s deal is believed to be for five years.
Brenna, who was a finalist the last time Arizona had a vacancy in 2020, will become the 31st head coach in Arizona football history. The 50-year-old Brennan owns a 34-48 record at San Jose State since being hired in 2017. Despite the losing record, San Jose State was showing signs of being on the rise under Brennan. He had back-to-back seven-win seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Ironically enough, Fisch also left Arizona with a losing mark. He went 15-21 in two seasons.
West Virginia and Arizona are scheduled to meet in conference play during the 2024 season.
