Rich Rodriguez Admits WVU’s Recruiting Issues, Promises Finances Have Been Rectified
Knowing how disappointed WVU fans are with the 2025 season, Rich Rodriguez decided to offer an explanation.
During his weekly radio show on Monday night, Rodriguez admitted that the program did not have their finances in order throughout the offseason. He opened up about how he wanted to keep a couple of the former Mountaineers who transferred, but West Virginia lost out due to the money.
While Rodriguez wouldn’t mention which for WVU players he was referring to, he also added that there were also outside transfers he spoke to and ended up losing out on as well.
It’s nice Rodriguez is being honest, but these admissions come after he spent most of the offseason publicly proclaiming it’s easier to turn a program around in this era and he was expecting to win right away.
And for his latest promise to Mountaineer Nation, Rodriguez says WVU football’s financial issues have been rectified and he does not anticipate money to be as much of a problem in recruiting moving forward.
“We’ll be better positioned financially than we were a year ago,” promised Rodriguez.
He reiterated that he hopes the current state of the Mountaineers ends up being the worst of his second tenure.
“I hope this is bottom,” said Rodriguez, who appeared beyond frustrated after WVU’s 45-13 loss at UCF.

Now at 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12, there’s not much for even the most optimistic WVU fan to point to as a sign of better days to come, at least within this season. The hope for the future has to be in Rodriguez and the belief he will fulfill his promise to make West Virginia great again, granted that may take more time than initially advertised.
