WVU basketball is set to host 2025 three-star guard Omari Witherspoon this weekend, a source confirmed with WV Sports Now. Witherspoon will be in town as West Virginia football hosts No. 8 Penn State in the season opener on Saturday.

Witherspoon, a 6-foot-6 prospect, has completed visits to Maryland and Vanderbilt within the last week. He also plans on visiting Pitt, Virginia Tech, Butler and Clemson coming up. Witherspoon will not schedule any other visits after that group.

Witherspoon recently included West Virginia in his top 10 list. Along with WVU, Witherspoon is also considering Butler, Clemson, George Mason, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Xavier.

“Thanks to each program who has spent time on building relationships with me and my family. All the calls, texts, pulling up to my games and visits are all appreciated. With that said, I will be dropping my list today,” Witherspoon wrote on X at the time.

Witherspoon is entering his senior year at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.

Witherspoon received an offer from WVU’s staff in June. WVU associate head coach Chester Frazier is leading the way with Witherspoon’s recruitment as Frazier has the DMV area connection.

WV Sports Now will keep you up to date on Witherspoon’s visit as well as WVU basketball recruiting.
