WVU basketball appears to be off the bubble for the NCAA Tournament following its win over TCU Tuesday night. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi moved the Mountaineers off the bubble in a Bracketology update he posted to social media Wednesday night.

The Mountaineers had been in Lunardi’s “Last Four Byes” for the past few weeks, but it appears Tuesday’s win over the Horned Frogs, WVU’s 17th on the season, has them firmly back into the tournament field.

In a follow-up post, Lunardi showed he still doesn’t have WVU as a lock for the tournament right now, granted he has them in the field as a No. 9 seed. He has five locks in the Big 12 — Houston, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Arizona and Kansas — and one team, BYU, as 90% likely to make the big dance.

WVU’s next game is against BYU Saturday night in Provo (10 p.m./ESPN2), a golden opportunity for the Mountaineers to presumably lock up their tournament spot with a win. Any win in WVU’s final three games of the regular season could be the key to the Mountaineers earning an at-large bid, but avenging their earlier loss to the Cougars could be the Mountaineers’ last chance to make a push up the seed line.

For a related story, WVU basketball hopes to maintain offensive success.
