Chalk up another recurring win for Mark Kellogg and his WVU women’s basketball staff. On Monday, West Virginia makes the addition of Riley Makalusky official by signing the Butler transfer.

“Riley is a fantastic addition to our women’s basketball program,” Kellogg said. ” She is a versatile forward that can impact the game in multiple ways.”

“She will stretch a defense with her ability to shoot the basketball, but she also can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Riley led the Big East in 3-point shooting her freshman season. She brings a dimension to our team that we haven’t had recently. We are excited to welcome Riley to Morgantown and ready to watch her develop.”

The signing of the 6-foot-2 Makalusky comes only two days after she announced her commitment to the Mountaineers. She is expected to be a forward during her time in West Virginia.

Makalusky, an Indiana native, played in 64 games with 37 starts in two seasons at Butler. She averaged 8.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists this season.

She was a very efficient shooter as a freshman, making 36 three-pointers on 46.8% shooting, but struggled this past season. As a sophomore, Makalusky shot just 30.3% from range with 27 treys.

Makalusky scored a season-high 16 points against Georgetown in February and set a career-high of 23 points her freshman season against Roosevelt. Butler went 16-18 this season, 5-13 in the Big East.

Makalusky becomes the second player to officially sign with WVU this Spring, joining Loghan Johnson from Texas Tech.
