To the surprise of some, WVU sports sits within the top 25 in terms of overall athletic department performance for the 2024-25 calendar year.

With all winter sports completed, WVU currently stands in 24th place in the 2024-25 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings.

The Mountaineers compiled 291.50 points this winter – 100 in rifle, 55 in wrestling, 50 in women’s basketball, 49.5 in women’s track & field and 37 in gymnastics. West Virginia compiled 190 points in the fall and was ranked 22nd in the final fall standings.

West Virginia is the second-highest ranked Big 12 school in the current standings: BYU (10th), West Virginia (24th), Arizona State (36th), Utah (42nd), Iowa State (46th), Oklahoma State (48th), TCU (50th), Baylor (57th), Texas Tech (57th), Colorado (61st), Arizona (62nd), Houston (78th), Kansas (80th), Kansas State (102nd), Cincinnati (147th) and UCF (NR).

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.

Most of this story was taken from the WVU press release.
