Watch: Celtics HC Joe Mazzulla Keeps It Real After Boston’s Big Win

Former Mountaineer and current Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla continues to offer words of wisdom during his press conferences this season.

Following the Celtics 121-109 win over the Timberwolves on Friday night, Mazzulla was asked about his team’s slow start to the game, and responded like only he could.

“Doesn’t every team go through lapses during a game?,” the former West Virginia guard, who was named Boston’s interim head coach after serving as an assistant due to the suspension of Ime Udoka, responded.

“We’re gonna have lapses. We have always had lapses. That doesn’t mean we’e not playing hard. And that doesn’t mean we’re not working to make the right play. And that doesn’t mean that we’re not executing. That’s just part of the game,” Mazzulla expressed to make his point that every team will deal with poor play at times within games and the Celtics have been so good that people are shocked when they go through a rough patch.

Despite being only 34-years-old and not having any major college or NBA experience as a head coach prior to this season, Mazzulla has led the Celtics to the best record in the league to this point, not allowing the reigning Eastern Conference championship to miss a beat. But regardless of the success of the team, Mazzulla is still all about being levelheaded with what’s expected and also not ever being satisfied, in similar fashion to WVU head coach Bob Huggins, the Basketball Hall of Famer he played under in college.

“We’re gonna suck for like three minutes during this quarter,” is how Mazzulla bluntly concluded his rant.
