West Virginia Native Tyson Bagent Opening Eyes in Strong Preseason for Bears

It was the Tyson Bagent show for the Bears on Saturday night. The West Virginia native was impressive while enjoying significant time at quarterback in Chicago’s second preseason game.
Bagent, who signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in April, completed nine of ten passes for 76 yards against the Colts. He did produce a touchdown, running into the end zone, much like he did so often in college at Shepherd.
Despite Bagent’s efforts, the Bears lost the game 24-17. This was Bagent’s second preseason appearance, going 4 for 5 for 36 yards in his NFL debut. Bagent owns the fourth highest grade for quarterbacks throughout the preseason by PFF.
Even though the Martinsburg, West Virginia native did not garner attention like other quarterbacks from Division I schools, his college statistics were too much to ignore for an NFL to not give him a chance. In Division II, he threw for 4,580 yards in 2022 and exactly 5,000 yards passing in 2021. Bagent also completed 70% of his passes and tossed 41 touchdowns this past season, totaling 91 the last two years combined.
Tyson Bagent in the NFL also no doubt means hearing more from his dad, Travis. Mr. Bagent actually spoke for his son at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis and entertained the media members, including WVSN’s Mike Asti, in attendance.
