West Virginia to Play Home and Home Series with Alabama

West Virginia will be adding a very difficult out of conference series to the schedule starting in 2026. WVU will officially play Alabama in back-to-back years with the first matchup taking place in Morgantown.

The Crimson Tide included the dates of the series with WVU as part of their announcement of upcoming home and home series over the next decade. Alabama will first travel to WVU on Sept. 5, 2026 and then the Mountaineers will be at Alabama on Sept. 4 the following year. This SEC vs. Big 12 matchup, assuming the leadership of both program’s stays in tack, has some obvious connections that will be discussed leading up to the games.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban, a man widely recognized as, one of, if not the greatest college coach of all-time, is a Fairmont, West Virginia native. He also served as defensive back’s coach at WVU in 1978 and 1979. But Saban is not the only big name that would be facing a familiar opponent. WVU Athletic Director Shane Lyons was part of the Alabama program as the deputy director of athletics from 2011 to 2015 prior to taking over the reigns in Morgantown. The Alabama athletic program won 6 national titles, most notably 2 in football, under Lyons.

After kickoff the series at Milan Puskar Stadium, WVU will travel to Tuscaloosa in 2027.
