The Tennessee Volunteers (18-1) played the part of the number one team in the country in the dismantling of the West Virginia Mountaineers (9-11) Saturday evening. Tennessee had a slow start to the game, but once their shots started to fall, they quickly took the lead and never looked back.

West Virginia started the game with two turnovers and went 0-3 from the field. The Mountaineers started rolling going on a 16-3 run behind 4-5 from behind the arc. WVU built a 12-point after Beetle Bolden drilled a three with a hand in his face. Lead by seven different Mountaineers, the Volunteers faced their largest deficit of the season at 19-7.

After shooting 7-11 from the field and 5-7 from three in the first nine minutes, the Mountaineers went on a nine minute and 29 second scoring drought. WVU scored 2 points in the final 11 minutes, 1-17 from the floor.

Tennessee got into their flow scoring 17 straight before West Virginia made their final bucket of the half and took a 10-point lead into halftime.

West Virginia was hanging within striking distance early in the second half, until Beetle Bolden landed funny on the receiving end of an alley-oop and went out of the game to what appeared to be a high ankle sprain. WVU improved their shooting in the second half but 14 second half turnovers never got them any closer than 11 after Beetle left the game as the Mountaineers lose by 17 for their 11th loss of the season.

The Mountaineers return to action Wednesday night in Ames to take on No. 24 Iowa State at 7:00 pm est.
