Why the Best Virginia TBT Run Was a ‘Great Journey’ for West Family

The 2025 Best Virginia squad was largely made up of players who had never played together. However, this was not that case for Jarrod West Sr., the head coach, and his son, Jarrod, who got to compete on the same team once again.

The TBT marked an on-court reunion for the two, as West Sr. coached West at Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, W.Va. West graduated in 2017, the same year he and his father won the Class A State Title.

With Best Virginia’s run in this year’s TBT, West Sr. had a chance to coach his son again, an opportunity he said he cherished in the postgame press conference after an 85-77 loss to Eberlein Drive.

“I never thought I was gonna get the chance to coach him again, so to be able to have him and go on this run was special,” West Sr. said.

West also appreciated the time with his father and enjoyed the ability to play in his hime state, as his professional career now has him playing overseas.

“It’s a really good experience, man. This is something I don’t take for granted.
You know, you get two to three weeks out of the summer to play competitive basketball for high stakes in America in front of your families, in front of your friends. You know, you don’t get that overseas every day,” West said.

West Sr. also spoke highly of his team, mentioning the opportunity to build relationships and help influence the younger members of the team as they move forward in their lives.

“The biggest thing I’ll take away is there’s 10 great guys in the locker room and you know, to build relationships with young men who are becoming fathers, husbands, to try to impact mentor,” West Sr. said. “Hopefully, they can see something and how I carry myself, they can reflect in their life moving forward.”

West Sr. recently took an assistant coaching position with Glenville State Women’s Basketball. While the future is never certain, West Sr. said he would love to come back for Best Virginia next year.

“I can’t even wrap my mind around that right now, to be honest with you. But definitely, if it presents itself again and things work out, I would love it,” West Sr. said.
