WVU Baseball Doubleheader at Oklahoma State Canceled

Hours after learning their Big 12 opener was postponed, Steve Sabins and his WVU baseball team will now have to wait even longer for their biggest series of the season so far.
Dangerously high winds scrapped Friday’s game and initially created a doubleheader for Saturday. However, the Saturday games won’t be played due to all home athletic events at Oklahoma State being canceled.
“In the immediate aftermath of a historic outbreak of fires in the area, all of Saturdayโs scheduled home athletic events at Oklahoma State have been canceled,” reads a press release from Oklahoma State.
There is no word on if Sunday’s regular scheduled game between the two schools will still be played.
Also from Oklahoma State: “The status of Sundayโs home events is not yet clear. It is also unclear at this time whether any of the impacted events will be rescheduled.”
The WVU program sent well wishes to those impacted by the weather.
“Update for this weekend below. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires in Stillwater and across Oklahoma.”

Griffin Kirn (3-0, 2.35 ERA) and Gavin Van Kempen (2-0, 3.86 ERA) were set to start the first two games of the series for the Mountaineers, who remain outside the Top 25 in most major polls despite their strong start to the season.
Powered by a combination of savvy veterans like Logan Sauve and Brodie Kresser as well as exciting freshmen like catcher Gavin Kelly โ whose .407 batting average ranks second on the team โ the Mountaineers look to improve on their 2024 campaign, to this point the best finish in program history, which saw them make the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
For a related story, WVU Baseball has a unique catcher inย Gavin Kelly.
