WVU Baseball to Play Sunday’s Game at Oklahoma State

WVU baseball will open Big 12 play this weekend after all. After the first two games of their series with Oklahoma State were canceled due to severe weather, the Sunday game will be played as originally scheduled.
First pitch for the Mountaineers vs. the Cowboys is scheduled for 2 pm ET.

Dangerously high winds scrapped Friday’s game and initially created a doubleheader for Saturday. However, the Saturday games were eventually eliminated as well.
“In the immediate aftermath of a historic outbreak of fires in the area, all of Saturday’s scheduled home athletic events at Oklahoma State have been canceled,” read a press release from Oklahoma State.
The WVU program sent well wishes to those impacted by the weather.
“Update for this weekend below. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires in Stillwater and across Oklahoma.”
Griffin Kirn (3-0, 2.35 ERA) and Gavin Van Kempen (2-0, 3.86 ERA) were set to start the first two games of the series for the Mountaineers, who remain outside the Top 25 in most major polls despite their strong start to the season.
Powered by a combination of savvy veterans like Logan Sauve and Brodie Kresser as well as exciting freshmen like catcher Gavin Kelly — whose .407 batting average ranks second on the team — the Mountaineers look to improve on their 2024 campaign, to this point the best finish in program history, which saw them make the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
For a related story, WVU Baseball has a unique catcher in Gavin Kelly.
