WVU Baseball saw left-handed pitcher Griffin Kirn earn an All-American nod from the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday, June 11 after earning his place as the Mountaineers’ Friday starter during the 2025 season. Kirn landed on the third team, adding to his trophy case after a Second Team All-East Region award earlier in the day.

A redshirt senior who spent the first four seasons of his career at Division II’s Quincy University, Kirn made 18 appearances (17 starts) last season as the Mountaineers made their second consecutive Super Regional appearance in the NCAA Tournament, enjoying the best season in program history with a 44-16 record and a regular season Big 12 championship.

Kirn became the 15th Mountaineers pitcher to log 100 strikeouts in a season, fanning 103 batters and compiling a 3.36 ERA across 99 innings; he also earned a First Team All-Big 12 selection. Kirn’s lone relief appearance came during the Mountaineers’ Clemson Regional-clinching win over Kentucky on June 1, putting the Wildcats away with a three out save.

Kirn’s All-American selection gives WVU Baseball its 28th All-American in program history, and its 67th total selection between the various publications. 38 of those selections came since 2013, when West Virginia hired former head coach Randy Mazey and joined the Big 12, a testament to their success under himself and his successor, Steve Sabins.
