WVU Baseball Sees Three Players Make All-East Region Team

Three WVU Baseball players earned ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region honors on Wednesday, June 11 for their performance during the 2025 season: starting pitchers Griffin Kirn and Jack Kartsonas, as well as infielder/utility man Sam White, who picked up first team honors.
Kirn, a redshirt senior, and Kartsonas, a graduate student, both earned second team honors after transferring to West Virginia ahead of this past season, establishing themselves as the teamโs Friday and Saturday starters, respectively.
White, a rising senior, established himself as a star during the 2024 season, playing in each of the Moutnaineersโ 60 games (59 starts). He logged a career-high .361 batting average with five home runs and 46 RBI this season, adding 17 doubles and nine stolen bases. A native of Aurora, Ontario, Canada, White could see his name called in the MLB Draft this July.
Kirn, who made 18 appearances (17 starts), became the 15th Mountaineers pitcher to log 100 strikeouts in a season, fanning 103 batters and compiling a 3.36 ERA across 99 innings; he also earned a First Team All-Big 12 selection. Kirnโs lone relief appearance came during the Mountaineersโ Clemson Regional-clinching win over Kentucky on June 1, putting the Wildcats away with a three out save.
Kartsonas broke into the rotation midway through the season, starting nine games and making 20 total appearances. Totaling 66.1 innings pitched, Kartsonas fanned 77 batters and put together a 3.66 ERA.
The trio helped WVU Baseball put together their best season in program history, winning an outright Big 12 regular season title and posting a 44-16 record with a second straight appearance in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
