On the eve of WVU baseball hosting the NCAA’s Morgantown Regional, Steve Sabins is ready to name his starting pitchers.

Chansen Cole will open up the tournament, starting for West Virginia on Friday against Binghamton. Maxx Yehl will then take the mound on Saturday against either Kentucky or Wake Forest.

No. 16 overall seed West Virginia will welcome Wake Forest (the No. 2 seed in the bracket), Kentucky and Binghamton as the makeup of the rest of the regional field at Kendrick Family Ballpark. WVU will open up play against Binghamton on Friday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. ET.

Despite finishing as both the regular season and Big 12 Tournament runner-up, Steve Sabins’ 2026 WVU baseball team accomplished one of their main goals. They have been awarded the right to host the NCAA Regional Round in Morgantown.

Serving as host for the second time in the modern format (2019), West Virginia will play their regional games at Kendrick Family Ballpark with a spot in the Super Regional on the line.

WVU baseball hosting comes after the women’s basketball program hosted the opening regional of the Women’s NCAA Tournament, eventually falling to Kentucky in the second game.

Note: WVU also served as host of the District III Championship (a best-of-three series against Wake Forest) in 1955.
