WVU Baseball Wins On Senior Day, Locks Up No. 2 Seed
WVU Baseball concluded their 2026 regular season with a 6-4 Senior Day win, rallying past the TCU Horned Frogs with three runs in the eighth inning.
The No. 9 Mountaineers (37-13, 21-9 Big 12) finished the season ranked second in the conference, setting them up to begin their Big 12 Tournament run in Surprise, Ariz. at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 after a double bye.
West Virginia fell behind 3-0 after three innings as the Horned Frogs got to starting pitcher Chansen Cole, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the third. Matt Ineich slugged a first pitch double to begin the bottom of the frame, then raced around to score on a Gavin Kelly triple. Paul Schoenfeld singled Kelly in, but the Mountaineers couldnโt reel TCU in further.
Tyrus Hall found the equalizer in the bottom of the fourth, working the count full before blasting a home run to left. The Horned Frogs struck next, however, hitting two singles to plate a run and chase Cole from the game after 5.1 innings, eight strikeouts and 91 pitches.
WVU Baseball put two runners in scoring position to open the eighth, finding the go-ahead run after wild pitches to Ineich and Kelly. Sean Smith singled in another run and Reese Bassinger retired the side in the ninth, securing the win after 3.2 innings in relief on 44 economical pitches.
