WVU Basketball Barely Moves in KenPom Despite Q1 Win, NCAA Tournament Position

Win or lose, most insiders have kept WVU basketball within the NCAA Tournament field for months. But analytically, the Mountaineers are still outside the top 50 in an important ranking.
West Virginia’s 71-69 win on the road at Utah, a win viewed as another Quad 1 win, only moved WVU up one spot on the KenPom Rankings from where they entered the week.
The win over Utah (16-14, 8-11) puts the Mountaineers (18-12, 9-10) in prime position to make the NCAA Tournament with one regular season game remaining.
However, Darian DeVries’ team is now in the No. 52 spot after falling all the way to No. 53 before tip-off in Salt Lake City. WVU was hanging on inside the top 40, if not even better, all season until recently.
WVU basketball concludes the regular season at home against UCF Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
