WVU Basketball has dropped to last place in the Big 12 Conference standings as of Sunday. West Virginia lost to No. 12 Baylor 94-81, falling to 3-9 in conference. Oklahoma State, who was in sole place behind the Mountaineers, defeated BYU on Saturday.

With these results, WVU and Oklahoma State are tied but the Cowboys have the tiebreaker over the Mountaineers with their 70-66 win on Jan. 27.

If the season ended today, West Virginia would be the 14-seed in the Big 12 Tournament, playing Kansas State on the opening day of games.

West Virginia is currently in the final weeks of their first season under interim HC Josh Eilert. Eilert took over for Bob Huggins last June after he resigned from the University. Eilert and his staff retooled the roster post-Huggins but dealt with odd situations like denied waivers, injuries and a suspension. West Virginia did not play with their original roster until late January.

WVU has upset wins over Kansas, Texas and Cincinnati but currently sits at 8-17.

WVU director of athletics Wren Baker will evaluate Eilert and his staff at the end of the season.
