After officially announcing one new coach over the weekend, the WVU basketball program confirms the hiring of Jase Herl to Ross Hodge’s staff on Tuesday.

“Jase is the complete package when it comes to coaching basketball,” Hodge said about the addition of Herl. “He has a great feel for people and the game of basketball. He impacts all areas of our program, and I am thrilled to have him in Morgantown.”

West Virginia’s announcement comes a week after Herl publicized his move to Morgantown on social media.

Herl’s coaching career began at his alma mater, Colorado Mesa, as an assistant coach in 2010. He made stops at Northwest Kansas (head coach) and South Plains College (assistant coach) before landing at Colorado State in 2016.

Herl was named interim head coach at Colorado State in 2018 at just 30 years old. He went 1-5 as interim head coach, notching a win over San Jose State in his first game.

He was the associate head coach at Missouri State from 2018-23 and then joined Hodge’s staff at North Texas.
