WVU Basketball Still Firmly on Track to Make NCAA Tournament

For some positive WVU basketball news, the Mountaineers continue to remain firmly on track to make the NCAA Tournament. Despite losing three of their last four, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi still has West Virginia in the field.
Lunardi released his latest Bracketology on Tuesday, showing WVU as a No. 9 seed. He currently has West Virginia in the West region and facing Clemson.
And while Lunardi has tossed WVU all over the map in recent weeks, fluctuating anywhere from a No. 6 to a No. 10 seed, he continues to keep them off the bubble.
But despite staying in tournament projections, Darian DeVries’ team is no longer receiving votes in the Associated Press Poll.
West Virginia (14-7, 5-5 Big 12) was ranked just two weeks ago, but a three-game losing streak has taken the Mountaineers completely out of consideration for the time being.
As far as most recently, WVU began last week by losing its third straight game, 63-49 at home against Houston on Wednesday. The Mountaineers then went on the road and broke their losing skid with a 63-50 win at Cincinnati on Sunday.
Despite falling out of the AP Top 25 Poll, the Mountaineers recovered a bit in the computer rankings. After dropping for several days in a row, West Virginia rose to No. 43 in the latest KenPom rankings as of Monday. The Mountaineers had fallen to No. 48 following the loss to Houston.
The Mountaineers travel to TCU in their next game Wednesday at 8 p.m. The Horned Frogs (11-10, 4-6) are No. 82 in KenPom. WVU then hosts Utah in the Coliseum Saturday at 5 p.m. The Utes (12-9, 4-6) are ranked No. 89 in KenPom.
For a related story, WVU basketball announced Tucker DeVries will have surgery and miss the rest of the season.
