WVU Football Looking to Re-Establish Relationship with 2026 4-Star Legacy Recruit

A new WVU football coaching staff means a new culture and a new system, and that kind of change can impact recruiting. In the case of Travis Jonson, an existing recruit offered by the old staff, he now knows West Virginia is interested in him.
On Tuesday, the 2026 four-star wide receiver revealed he’s been re-offered by West Virginia. “Blessed to be re-offered by West Virginia!,” said Johnson on social media.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, Johnson attends Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va. He’s widely regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the country. Johnson is ranked as the No. 21 wide receiver, the No. 4 player in Virginia and even the No. 148 prospect in the entire 2026 class.
But in addition to being a top recruit, Johnson is a Mountaineer legacy. He’s the younger brother of Tory Johnson Jr., a member of WVU’s 2023 recruiting class and the son of former Mountaineer tight end Tory Johnson Sr. His mother, Tiffany Johnson, is also a WVU alum herself.

It was important for the Mountaineers to re-establish their interest in Johnson and for the new coaching staff to create their own relationship with him as well.
WV Sports Now spoke to Johnson about getting an offer from the school so connected to his family two years ago.
“Told me They love my talent!!! Knowing that my brother and parents went here, it feels great,” he said.
Johnson was initially offered by Neal Brown and his staff in June of 2023. At that time, WVU was his sixth offer. Fast forward to the present day and Johnson has well over 20 offers, including some from prominent major programs like Auburn, Boston College, Duke, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Johnson’s most recent new offer came from the Tar Heels on Jan. 5. He also visited Virginia Tech on Jan. 8.
