On The Eve of Homecoming, Neal Brown Calls to Welcome Back Alumni

It has been public knowledge that Pat McAfee, even prior to becoming the media stalwart he is now, was not keen on returning to Morgantown after the treatment he received after the infamous 13-9 game in 2007. However, this issue blew up in the last week as McAfee spoke publicly on this issue for the first time. This led to a major outpouring from the Mountaineer fanbase on social media, calling for support to bring WVU’s all-time leading scorer back to the Mountain State to receive the recognition he deserves.

As if he could not endear himself more to the WVU faithful, head coach Neal Brown made a statement on this controversy during his press conference on Tuesday. Not only did he give credit to McAfee for his accomplishments and invite him to return to his alma mater, but he also made it clear that any WVU football alumnus would be welcomed with open arms by his staff.

With the homecoming game coming up against Texas next Saturday, it is certainly encouraging to see the newest head coach of the Mountaineers embracing the tradition and history that surrounds WVU football. After a period where it seemed as if former players were being turned away at the door, it seems that Neal Brown understands where his program has came from and as result, wants to hear from those who made it successful.
