WVU Football Projected Bowl Bid Following Win Over Pitt

WVU Football is projected to earn a bowl appearance following their Backyard Brawl win over Pitt on Saturday night. Action’s Brett McMurphy has the Mountaineers taking on Auburn in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 22 in Tampa, Fl.
This is the first time during the year that West Virginia is projected in a bowl game.

West Virginia has started the season 2-1, defeating Duquesne (56-17) and Pitt (17-6) while losing to Penn State (38-15). The Mountaineers will host Texas Tech this weekend and travel to TCU and Houston up until the bye week. West Virginia now needs four wins to become bowl eligible, which would mark the third appearance under HC Neal Brown.
McMurphy told WVSN that West Virginia would finish 6-6 before the season started.
McMurphy also has Texas (Sugar Bowl), Oklahoma (Cotton Bowl), BYU (Liberty Bowl), Kansas State (Alamo Bowl), UCF (Pop-Tarts Bowl), Kansas (Texas Bowl), Texas Tech (Guaranteed Rate Bowl), TCU (Armed Forces Bowl) and Oklahoma State (Independence Bowl) appearing in bowl games from the Big 12.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach projected us for the Frisco Bowl vs. Air Force while Jerry Palm with CBSsports.com put us in the Boca Raton Bowl vs. Coastal Carolina. The Big XII contracts do not include either bowl but who knows?
