MORGANTOWN, W.Va – West Virginia head coach Neal Brown did something he hasn’t done all season concerning a key lingering injury – put a timetable on the status of cornerback Charles Woods.

Even though CJ Donaldson and other players who were banged up against Texas were more on the top of his mind while updating the media on Monday, Brown did drop one nugget of news that may excite Mountaineer Nation. Brown said Woods is probably “at least one week away.” That means he won’t return on Thursday night, but opens the door to be potentially out on the field the following Saturday when the Mountaineers travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech.

Asti: What if Charles Woods was Healthy All Season?

This is the first time Brown as even come close to putting a timetable on Woods’ return. Previously, Brown has said that Woods was fighting to get back this season. He was even noncommittal about classifying Woods’ status until the veteran corner hinted on social media that he had surgery to repair his ankle. Brown did then call Woods injury as “a serious one” when asked about it days later.

Woods was injured early in the team’s season opening game in Pittsburgh, needing to be carted off the Acrisure Stadium field. He was placed on several watch lists for his position prior to the season.
