The Pittsburgh Pirates looked just a bit down south to Morgantown for one of their 2023 draft picks. WVU pitcher Carlson Reed was selected by the Pirates with the 104th pick of the fourth round on Monday.

Reed, who transitioned from being a starter to a reliever and closer in 2023, went 2-1 with seven saves and a 2.61 earned run average this season for West Virginia.

The Marietta, Georgia native recorded 60 strikeout while holding batters to a .167 batting average during conference play in the Big 12.

Reed is West Virginia’s first pitcher drafted this year after both Jacob Watters and Trey Braithewaite were drafted in 2022.
