WVU President to Serve as Ambassador for College Sports Tomorrow
College Sports Tomorrow, a group pitching for a new format of college football, released its members on Tuesday, including WVU President Gordon Gee.
Gee will serve as an ambassador for College Sports Tomorrow, according to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd.
Members of College Sports Tomorrow revealed. No mention of launch date or revenue. Good idea if employee-employer hits. I asked one member what happens to the likes of Greg Sankey, “We’ll buy them out.” pic.twitter.com/fkw5uaQO3K

Other members include: Grant Hill, former Duke and NBA star; Dee and Jimmy Haslam, University of Tennessee philanthropists; Len Perna, Founder and Chairman of TurnkeyZRG; Bubba Cunningham, the University of North Carolina AD; Danny White, University of Tennessee AD; Kent Syverud, Chancellor at Syracuse University; Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech University AD, and others.
Perna and former MLS Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott are pitching a design to college football which is similar to professional soccer.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the College Student Football League would be “split into two tiers, with different divisions based on geography.” The top 72 programs would be “split into 12 six-team divisions, with the remaining 64 spread across eight divisions in a lower tier.” Teams in the top tier would “play 13 games, with the best performers in one season receiving the toughest opponents the next.” Historic rivalries would be “given preference for non-divisional games.” There would be “no true promotion or relegation,” though the top teams in the lower tier would “compete for two berths in the 24-team playoff and receive additional funds.”
In the past, Gee has played a role in the College Football Playoff expansion. At the end of the 2024-25 academic year, Gee will step down as West Virginia University’s President.
