Kevin Dowdell becomes the latest Mountaineer to sign an MLB contract, signing with the Los Angeles Angels. The WVU baseball program announced Dowdell signed with the Angels as an undrafted free agent on Tuesday.

Dowdell, a Montevallo, Alabama native, spent the last two seasons with West Virginia after making the jump from playing at a couple community colleges. He showed off his ability to both hit and pitch during his time as a Mountaineer.

In 2023, Dowdell made 11 appearances on the mound while earning at-bats in 29 games as a hitter at WVU.

Dowdell hit .200 with a home run, eight RBI, and eight runs scored. He also recorded a 4.50 ERA with seven strikeouts.

Kevin Dowdell is now the fifth WVU player to earn an MLB opportunity, including Landon Wallace who signed with the Angels as well.
