WVU Women’s Basketball Obliterates Texas Tech On the Road
WVU Women’s Basketball picked up their first Big 12 road win of the season on Wednesday, January 8, blowing out Texas Tech 89-53 in Lubbock.
This marks WVU’s third win a row, and their largest margin of victory over a major conference opponent this season… one that’s 12-5, no less.
The No. 17 Mountaineers (13-2, 3-1 Big 12) opened the game on a 20-2 run, scoring the first 11 points and giving the Red Raiders no chance to find a scoring groove. They went on to limit Texas Tech to just a 33.3 shooting percentage, forcing 26 turnovers. After an abysmal shooting performance against BYU, the Mountaineers cleaned up their offense, making 50.9 percent of their shots in a tough road environment.

They also overwhelmed the Red Raiders’ defense, forcing 25 fouls and punishing them for it, converting on 28 of a whopping 31 trips to the line. JJ Quinerly led the field with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting, while Jordan Harrison and Sydney Shaw slotted in just behind her with 20 and 19 points, respectively.
WVU led 42-17 at the half, and while Texas Tech managed to play them even in the third quarter, keeping the deficit to that (near insurmountable) 25 points, the Mountaineers’ bench easily put away that of the Red Raiders in the fourth period, outscoring them 23-12.
Up next for the WVU women is another road matchup, this one against Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.
