WVU Women’s Basketball Picks Up Commanding Ranked Win

WVU Women’s Basketball picked up their biggest win of the season on Monday, with a commanding 70-57 victory against No. 12 Kansas State at the WVU Coliseum.
The No. 17 ranked Mountaineers (20-5, 10-4 Big 12) led 70-51 before a late Wildcats’ run made the final score look slightly more respectable.

JJ Quinerly dropped 26 points and added five rebounds, four assists and three steals, doing a little bit of everything to key the Mountaineers. Jordan Harrison added 18 points and Jordan Thomas tallied 11 off the bench, while Kyah Watson put up a valiant effort on the glass with 15 rebounds.
While Kansas State played without star center Ayoka Lee, who suffered a foot injury in mid-January but is nearing a return to action, the Wildcats managed to keep things close early on. West Virginia looked poised to take control after a 12-2 run put them up 17-11, but Kansas State battled back to knot the game at 19 heading into the second period.
A Kennedy Taylor free throw put Kansas State ahead 27-26 with 3:39 to play until the break. From there, West Virginia closed out the half on a 10-3 run. They never trailed again.
After Kansas State closed within eight points early in the fourth quarter, an 11-0 stretch from the Mountaineers silenced any hope of a comeback.
Up next for WVU Women’s Basketball is another ranked duel, this time on the road against No. 10 TCU at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
