WVU Women’s Basketball suffered a lopsided ranked loss on Sunday, Feb. 23, falling 71-50 to the No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.

Hailey Van Lith outdueled JJ Quinerly as the star shooting guards led their teams with 26 and 13 points, respectively. Sedona Prince turned in 20 more as the Horned Frogs poured it on, while the No. 17 Mountaineers (21-6, 11-5 Big 12) made just 30.5 percent of their shots. Jordan Harrison dropped 11 points, the only other West Virginia player to hit double digits.

While the Mountaineers forced 18 turnovers — not far off their usual mark — their shots just didn’t fall.

West Virginia led for much of the first five minutes as offense sputtered for both teams, but once the Horned Frogs found their gear, the Mountaineers didn’t have a prayer of keeping up.

Trailing 20-9 after the first period, a quick scoring run to open the second helped West Virginia close within five points, but the Mountaineers managed just one field goal in the last six minutes of the half, allowing the Horned Frogs to push the lead to 39-20.

West Virginia managed a small win in the third quarter, outscoring TCU by three, but it was too little, too late as the Horned Frogs coasted to victory.

Up next for WVU Women’s Basketball is a home game against Utah — who sits half a game in front of them in the conference standings — set to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
