WVU’s T.J. Simmons and Tykee Smith Receive Big 12 Weekly Honors

West Virginia senior wide receiver T.J. Simmons has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore defensive back Tykee Smith has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

The Mountaineers defeated TCU 24-6 Saturday in one of only two Big 12 games played over the weekend. Texas Tech defeated Baylor 24-23 in the other.
Simmons caught four passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns to lead WVU’s offense. Smith finished third on the team with nine tackles and also had a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and an interception with a 42-yard return.
Texas Tech’s Jonathan Garibay won Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week and Colin Schooler won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
The Mountaineers will enjoy their final open week of the season this week, before hosting the Oklahoma Sooners in their final home game of the season on Nov. 28.
