WVU Football QB commit Brodie McWhorter

Can Rich Rodriguez win over a top quarterback recruit who West Virginia lost after firing Neal Brown? Well, only time will tell but it’s clear he’s putting in an effort and may have a chance to make Brodie McWhorter a future Mountaineer again.

McWhorter, a 2026 four-star Georgia prospect, even teased the possibility by posting a screenshot that shows he had a recent virtual conversation with Rodriguez. Both McWhorter and Rodriguez are shown smiling ear to ear in the screenshot.

McWhorter didn’t add more context to his post, but included a simple caption that lends fans to believe the conversation was a positive one.

“Great talk with Coach Rodriguez,” said the high coveted quarterback.

McWhorter revealed that heโ€™s withdrawing his commitment to the Mountaineers on Dec. 2, the day after West Virginia announced the program was moving on from Brown. McWhorterโ€™s decision came after he posted a picture with Brown and โ€œdoesnโ€™t even feel right. Canโ€™t thank this man enough โ€“ LEGENDARYโ€ as the caption for his initial reaction to the news of Brown’s firing.ย

But now despite McWhorter’s close relationship with Brown, it appears he’s open to becoming a Mountaineer once again and willing to hear what Rodriguez and the new WVU staff could offer him?

McWhorter is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback out of Cass High School in Kingston, Ga. He was on campus for a visit for WVUโ€™s home finale against UCF.ย

Two major national recruiting outlets rank McWhorter as a four-star while one awards him only three stars.

To put McWhorterโ€™s recruitment in context, he has offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan State, North Carolina and Ohio State among others. And in addition to those offers, Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee have also expressed interest.

McWhorter was the second commitment for WVUโ€™s 2026 class when he announced back in June.
