Mountaineers in the Pros
Erik Stevenson Steps up Late in Summer League Win Over Celtics

Former WVU Men’s Basketball guard Erik Stevenson came in clutch for the Miami Heat NBA 2K26 Summer League squad in a 100-96 win over the Boston Celtics Monday night.
In a slow scoring game for the 2023 WVU graduate, he drilled a three-pointer from the left corner with 10 seconds remaining to put his squad up 98-94.

After a made layup from Boston, Stevenson was fouled and put the game out of reach with two made free throws.
Stevenson finished Monday’s matchup with eight points and three rebounds. He shot 2-4 from the floor and 2-3 from three-point range.
Monday’s matchup marked Stevenson’s second straight start for the Heat. He finished with 10 points and five rebounds while shooting 4-6 from the floor in a 92-72 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday.
Stevensonโs best performance of the summer so far came when he scored 16 in a win over the Spurs in the โCalifornia Classicโ before the true league play began.
This is Stevenson’s third time playing in the NBA Summer League after playing for the Washington Wizards last year and the San Antonio Spurs in 2023.
Stevenson is just one of three former Mountaineers competing in the 2025 NBA Summer League. Guard Javon Small has represented the Memphis Grizzlies after being selected with pick No. 48 in the 2025 NBA Draft. However, the team has rested him in recent matchups after he inked a two-year, two-way contract.
Center Jesse Edwards has been a consistent rotational piece for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He finished a July 12 win over the Denver Nuggets with eight points and three rebounds while tallying seven points and one rebound in the team’s opening game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Edwards came off the bench in both matchups.
Stevenson will take the court again when the Heat take on the Detroit Pistons at 4 p.m. Thursday. The game can be streamed on ESPN+ and NBA TV.
