A WVU basketball reunion is happening in Memphis as Toby Okani has signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, joining former teammate Javon Small.

Okani played for WVU under head coach Darrian DeVries in the 2024-25 season. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, starting all 32 contests in his lone Mountaineer season.

So far in his professional career, Okani has played for the Westchester Knicks, the NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks. He played in 32 games this season, starting 12, averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Okani represented the state of West Virginia once again before his G League tenure, however, as he played for Best Virginia in the 2025 TBT. He helped seal a win for Best Virginia with two free throws to secure a first round win over the Dubois Dream.

Small, West Virginiaโ€™s point guard during the 2024-25 season, led the Mountaineers to a 19-12 record,ย just missing out on the NCAA Tournament. He finished second in the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game while earningย first-team All-Big 12 honors.

Small is the second former Mountaineer to be drafted since Jevon Carter was taken in the second round in 2018. Miles โ€œDeuceโ€ McBride went No. 36 to the New York Knicks in 2021. WVU has produced five draft picks since 2000.

The Grizzlies selected the ex WVU guard with the 48th overall pick in late June.
