Former WVU Walk-On Blasts Hudson Clement for Leaving West Virginia

Since everyone seems to be weighing in on Hudson Clement deciding to leave West Virginia for Illinois, why not another former WVU walk-on? With Clement’s walk-on story being part of what made him such a fan favorite during his two years at WVU, a former walk-on had some strong words for the now ex Mountaineer.

Former WVU kicker Mike Molina decided to find an old post from the official WVU football X account with the video the program made to detail Clement’s journey last year and use it as the backdrop for his criticism.

“Please delete immediately, WVU Football. There have been too many walk-ons that stayed at WVU for 4-5 years that deserved scholarships but never received them for this video to still be online. This doesnโ€™t represent the โ€œwalk on storyโ€ at WVU,” said Molina.

Molina, a Hurricane, W.Va. native and 2013 walk-on, spent four years at WVU. He made 20-of-30 field goal attempts and was perfect in all 93 of his extra point attempts.

The obvious counter to Molina is his time as a Mountaineer occurred before the current transfer portal and it’s impossible to know how every past walk-on would’ve acted if faced with a similar opportunity as players of today like Clement.

Well aware of the venom directed his way, Clement decided to speak his mind about his departure.

Hudson Clement Responds to Hate from WVU Fans About Departure

โ€œFolks want me to do what makes them happy not whatโ€™s best for me. Yโ€™all donโ€™t know me and donโ€™t know what Iโ€™ve been through. Never chased a bag, always chased better opportunities. Appreciate the ones who helped me get here, but I donโ€™t owe no one anything,โ€ said Clement.

He also offered a message of thanks to WVU and the coaches, in particular former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown and wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall, he worked with while a Mountaineer.

For a related story, Hudson Clement isn’t the only member of his family to take his talents to Illinois.

College football is a business now, with NIL and transfer portal. The young man gave us two great years, worked hard and now is making a decision to further his possibilities. Best of luck to you Hudson and may good things happen throughout your life….next man up.
